A fantastic opportunity has arisen for the position of Financial Accountant at Make Believe Ideas, a well-established children's publishing company based in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire (30 minutes north of London with a direct train link to Euston). Reporting to the Financial Controller, we are looking for an individual with strong technical and reporting skills. Working closely with the Finance team, the successful individual will be a hands-on accountant either nearing the end of their studies or a qualified (ACCA). Experience with IFRS and US GAAP and a working knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley is essential. This is a great opportunity to join an exciting company at a time with lots of change within the function. Key accountabilities and duties include: Prepare month-end adjustment journals, balance sheet reconciliations, confirmation of intercompany balances, review of prepayments and accruals ensuring SOX compliance is maintained Review financial controls and processes continually offering solutions and improvements Strong technical knowledge of IFRS supporting the finance team Document processes and procedures to encourage best practice Ensure compliance with group accounting policies and procedures Work with the Management Accountant to meet reporting timetables and responsibilities Oversee the receivables and payable ledgers are being maintained and reconciled Ensuring the correct treatment of VAT and completing the quarterly returns Manage the fixed asset register and process Participate in the annual, quarterly and monthly budgeting and forecasting process Manage audit process (internal & external) providing analysis and support in line with required deadlines Supporting the FC with all other ad hoc accounting and reporting tasks as required You will have: An accounting qualification (ideally ACCA), part qualified or qualified Audit experience is desirable Experience of IFRS, US GAAP and Sarbanes-Oxley Excellent Excel skills Systems experience of inventory, purchase order and sales order processes Experience of multi-currency accounting Strong communication skills both verbal and written Ability to meet tight deadlines Team player with an organised, methodical and proactive approach Excellent benefits including 25 days annual leave plus 8 Bank Holidays, contributory pension scheme, life assurance, substantial discounts on our books, discounts to many high street and online stores and many more.
