Assistant Management Accountant Hours 37.5 Andover This role will provide key support to the Management Accountant in the production of timely and accurate reports; lead on the sales ledger function, including credit control; lead on service charge accounting, and lead on maintaining the finance system. What You Will Be Doing Operational Management Accounting
• Supporting the Management Accountant in the production of monthly cost centre and departmental reports, identifying and investigating variances against budget.
• Undertaking monthly journal postings, including accruals and prepayments.
• Undertaking balance sheet and other account reconciliations, performing root cause analysis and correcting postings when required.
• Assisting with budgeting, forecasting, product costing and inventory analysis, and producing other adhoc reports as required.
• Assisting with the statutory accounts and year end.
• Sales Ledger
• Leading on sales ledger, including complex and ad hoc invoicing.
• Reviewing debtor balances and undertaking credit control.
• Producing monthly debtor analysis and reporting to Senior Management.
• Service Charge Accounting
• Monitor service charge and housing cost centres to ensure the accuracy and completeness of all transaction postings, including charges for void properties, making adjustments and correcting as necessary.
• Produce annual service charge accounts in accordance with current legislation for each relevant scheme and property.
• Prepare annual service charge budgets for each scheme.
• Work with the Housing team to ensure tenants are sent annual statements and any adjustments to future service charges are actioned.
• Finance System
• Lead on maintaining users within the finance system, ensuring appropriate menu access, including the set up of new users.
• Support the Management Accountant in maintaining coding structures and analysis fields within the finance system.
• Quality
• Maintain a high level of quality and accuracy.
• Work within the confines of, and fully understand General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR), maintaining confidentiality of data.
• People Management
• Supervise and support the Finance team in the absence of the Management Accountant
• If required, support and manage any volunteers in accordance with volunteer guidelines. Key Result Areas
• Producing accurate monthly reports within an agreed timescale.
• Achieving agreed debtor day and bad debt targets.
• Producing timely and accurate annual service charge accounts. Skills & Knowledge
• Strong accountancy skills, able to prepare simple financial statements and analyse and interpret financial information quickly
• Strong Excel skills and competent in the use of other Microsoft Office programs
• Good communication and other inter-personal skills with ability to discuss financial information with users at all levels
• Strong attention to detail
• Ability to recognise inconsistencies in accounts and perform reconciliations with minimal supervision
• Able to work well as part of a team
• Commitment to, and understanding of, equal opportunities and disability awareness
• Ability to manage relationships with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and with varying communication needs Experience
• Experience in a Finance department, including operation of computerised accounting systems
• Experience of preparing simple profit and loss accounts and balance sheets
• Experience of undertaking account reconciliations
• Experience of sales ledger processes including chasing outstanding debts
• Use of Pegasus Opera, or similar, accounting software
• Finance role within a charity or housing association.
• Experience of preparing management accounts, budgets and forecasts Qualifications
• AAT qualified or part qualified ACCA or CIMA and prepared to work towards full qualification.
• Willingness to undertake any qualifications that become deemed as necessary.
