Your new company
You will be part of the in-house tax team for this FTSE 250 household name and award winning business which operates pubs and hotels across the UK and will be working as an Indirect Tax Assistant in support of the Tax Manager.
The highly skilled tax team is an important function in the business and as an Assistant in this team you will gain significant exposure to the business and ensuring the company remains tax compliant and will review the tax impact of business initiatives whilst looking for opportunities to create efficiencies in both processes and tax savings.
Your new role
This is a VAT compliance role but there will be a lot of interaction with other areas of overall finance function of this business.
Reporting to the Tax Manager you will be required to prepare the UK and Irish VAT returns and to prepare the machine gaming duty returns. You will provide support to the customs process for exporting goods out of the UK and reclaiming the UK duty. You will provide ad-hoc tax advice to other areas of the business including property, accounts payable and commercial as well as other areas of the overall finance function. You will be required to submit monthly intrastat and EC sales list filings. You will be required to liaise with HM Revenue & Customs and overseas tax authorities. You will help the tax manager identify and mitigate tax risks and identify tax saving opportunities. You will prepare balance sheet reconciliations for tax accounts.
What you'll need to succeed
You will have full right to work in the UK without limitation. A recognised tax qualification either ATT/CTA is desirable but not essential. As such this may suit an individual qualified by experience or part way through a relevant professional qualification. It is expected that you will have strong experience in indirect tax and it would be preferred if you had previous experience in the retail or property sector.
You will have the ability to research technically complex areas and advise the business of these in nontechnical
terms. You will remain independent, driven and proactive with excellent communication skills and will be a strong team player.
