Job Details

Based in Zambia’s vibrant capital, Lusaka, our partner is a young family run business, founded to help communities tackle the prevalence of micronutrient malnutrition which contributes to premature death, illness and reduced productivity.

Their vision is to produce food with high nutritional value, using locally sourced ingredients and manufacturing. Partnering with NGOs, they identify and train local agents to distribute their nutritious foods such as fortified instant noodles and porridges on a large scale to rural communities.

They are in their start up stage and still to make a net profit. The company is accessing grant funding to continue to push the nutrition agenda.

Your Role

They are seeking an experienced accountant to support them in developing internal procedures, formal finance policies, donor reporting & grant management. You will begin by conducting an internal review of their existing procedures, systems and controls and making and implementing your recommendations for best practice.

This broad and wide-ranging assignment is a great opportunity for accountants thinking about a career move to the international development sector to get an extensive insight in just a couple of months.

Company

Accounting for International Development (A f I D) offers accountants the opportunity to use their skills to make a genuine difference as volunteers and to gain invaluable hands-on overseas experience in the International Development sector.  Tailored volunteer assignments of 2 to 12 weeks form part of an ongoing strategy to build the financial management capacity and long term sustainability of small community based charities across Africa, Asia and South America. Our partners which include street kid centres, health clinics and rural schools are doing amazing work to tackle extreme poverty and inequality in their communities but are unable to access vital professional services. A f I D is now supporting almost grassroots charities in over 50 countries across Africa, Asia and South America and are keen to talk to more accountants willing to share their invaluable skills and experience. In only ten years we are pleased to announce the placement of our 1000th  volunteer. This will take the total hours of pro-bono financial management coaching by our volunteers to over 200,000. An extraordinary effort, that assisted the development, and in some cases survival, of some fantastic organisations. A f I D is a double award winning social enterprise supported by UnLtd & The Millennium Awards Trust (Funded by the National Lottery).
