Job Details

Life-changing opportunity for an ambitious accountant looking to transition into the international development sector to gain extensive insight in just a few months.

Are you an accounting professional looking to use your skills and experience to give something back to society and those less fortunate around the world? Perhaps swap London for Laos, Melbourne for Malawi or Boston for Belize!? Accounting for International Development offers every type of accountant, from anywhere in the world, the opportunity to use their skills to support a broad range of non-profit organisations globally. Volunteer Accounting Assignments of between 2 weeks and 6 months form part of their ongoing strategy to build the financial management capacity of NGOs in over 50 countries.

In Tamil Nadu, one of the 29 states of India, our partner aims to transform the lives of the disadvantaged through using Kattaikuttu - a narrative theatre art form - as a medium to create self-respect, artistic delight and sustainable livelihoods.

Recently, the performing arts NGO has received income to establish an endowment fund and are seeking advice on creating a 5-year plan on their income and spending.

Your Role

Your role will be exploring the best way of investing the money and will require scenario modelling to assess how much income they need to run the organisation over the five years, how much of this needs to be raised & how much income can be generated from the endowment fund. You will also be required to create a risk assessment for this model.

This broad and wide-ranging assignment is a great opportunity for accountants thinking about a career move into the international development sector to get an extensive insight into the challenges of running an NGO in just a few weeks.

Tamil Nadu is the homeland of one of humanity’s living classical civilizations, stretching back uninterrupted for two millennia and very much alive today in the Tamils’ language, dance, poetry and Hindu religion.

Company

Accounting for International Development (A f I D) offers accountants the opportunity to use their skills to make a genuine difference as volunteers and to gain invaluable hands-on overseas experience in the International Development sector.  Tailored volunteer assignments of 2 to 12 weeks form part of an ongoing strategy to build the financial management capacity and long term sustainability of small community based charities across Africa, Asia and South America. Our partners which include street kid centres, health clinics and rural schools are doing amazing work to tackle extreme poverty and inequality in their communities but are unable to access vital professional services. A f I D is now supporting almost grassroots charities in over 50 countries across Africa, Asia and South America and are keen to talk to more accountants willing to share their invaluable skills and experience. In only ten years we are pleased to announce the placement of our 1000th  volunteer. This will take the total hours of pro-bono financial management coaching by our volunteers to over 200,000. An extraordinary effort, that assisted the development, and in some cases survival, of some fantastic organisations. A f I D is a double award winning social enterprise supported by UnLtd & The Millennium Awards Trust (Funded by the National Lottery).
